Open Admissions Policy
What do I need to get into Columbus State?
Columbus State has an open enrollment policy, which means we don't require a certain high school GPA, or certain ACT or SAT test scores. Generally speaking, if you can do the work, you're in.
Additional documentation is required for certain applicant categories, such as international students, felony, underage, and transfer students. Applicants not meeting established procedures will be denied admission.
New applicants generally need to take the COMPASS placement test in order to determine where they qualify. Some students will need to brush up on subjects such as Math or English before they get to their major courses.
Also, many individual programs are "selective." For example, while almost anyone will be admitted into Columbus State, you'll need to fulfill prerequisites and submit an application to get into the Nursing program. Some programs are quite competitive, so be sure to check with your Advisor before starting.
Not sure if you're ready for college work? Start with a basic Math or English class, or take a Developmental Education class for remedial work. We can also help you get your GED.
