Transient Students
Many students take courses at Columbus State while continuing to attend another college. We may call them "transient students," but we treat them just like our degree-seeking students.
If you are planning to transfer credits back to your “home” institution discuss your plans with your academic advisor at your “home” institution.

Step One: Apply for Admission & view Getting Started Orientation
- Apply Online – Select “Transient” as your Program of Study.

Step Two: Find out how to pay for your courses
- Contact the Financial Aid Office at your home institution for options
- Consider self-pay options, including cash, check, debit or credit card.
Step Three: Verify that your prerequisites have been met
- Obtain Advising report, unofficial transcript high school transcript or other documentation of completed coursework.
- Use u.select to view course equivalencies.
- Take placement tests if required.
Step Four: Submit Official HS and College transcripts to:

Step Five: Visit the Student Assistance Center in Madison Hall – 2nd Floor
- Advisors will direct you to additional information and next steps (e.g. academic advising, placement testing, orientation and other services).
- Please bring coursework documentation listed in Step 3.

Last Chance for Quarters!
Ohio U and Ohio State students: Columbus State is the last chance for quarters!
Your home college has already switched to semesters for Summer, so Columbus State is your last opportunity to squeeze in one more quarter class. Getting that last quarter class could help you catch up, avoid taking unnecessary classes – or even graduate on time!
To schedule classes at Columbus State, you should:
- Meet with an OSU advisor.
- Apply online to Columbus State.
- Set up a Columbus State email account.
- Check that course prerequisites have been met. Some students may need to complete placement testing to determine whether prerequisites have been met.
- Send in verifying documentation for prereqs, e.g., advising report, unofficial transcript, etc. Check email account for transcript approval.
