Practicums & Internships

Upon satisfactory completion of the five introductory courses, ENGL 101 and PSY 100 and formal acceptance into the program, students are eligible to participate in the clinical field practicum component of this program.

Students participate in four quarters of practicum. All practicums are paired with a seminar and have a corresponding course that has specific goals and learning activities to be accomplished during the quarter. Students practice basic skills under supervision of agency personnel for 14 hours per week and participate for two hours in a seminar on the CSCC campus. Students are required to earn 70% or above in the course, practicum and seminar to proceed to the next courses in the sequence.

The clinical coordinator assigns students to their practicum sites. Some of the sites include: community mental health agencies, supported living environments, addictions treatment programs, schools, homeless shelters, supported employment, and many others. Although most practicum sites are in Franklin County, additional sites in additional counties may be arranged upon request.

Students with prior criminal convictions:

All students must report any prior criminal conviction to the Clinical Coordinator of the program. Although there will be restrictions in where a person can participate in clinical internships, there are many agencies that will interview and consider students for placement. There may be times, however, this cannot be guaranteed. Every effort will be made to secure students with appropriate internships.
