Mental Health / Addiction Studies / Developmental Disabilities

This six-quarter program exposes students to innovative educational approaches. These include videotaping simulated situations, role-playing and discussion in small group seminars. Such approaches are used to help students develop the knowledge, therapeutic skills and necessary attitudes to succeed in this profession. The program stresses the characteristics graduates need to be effective helpers. During their second year students specialize in one of the following educational tracks: Mental Health, Addiction Studies, or Developmental Disabilities.

Students currently enrolled in MHAD courses need to regularly check the MHAD Student Community on Blackboard for important information, dates, changes and updates

License/Certification

Students completing MHAD 114: Introduction to Addiction Studies meets the 40 hour education requirement for the Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant with the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board.

Graduates who have earned an Associate of Applied Science in MH/AD/DD are eligible to apply for a Certificate of Registration as a Social Worker Assistant with the State of Ohio Counselor and Social Worker Board. Graduates also meet the degree requirement for the License Chemical Dependency Counselor II (LCDC II)

Internships Available

Four quarters or 560 hours of hands on/supervised practicum/internships include 560 hours of hands-on experience under the direct supervision of professionals in local agencies is a key component of this degree.
