Admissions

Mental Health, Addiction Studies, and Developmental Disabilities (MH/AS/DD) Program Admission Procedures were designed to help the student decide whether the MH/AS/DD Program offers the training you wish to pursue. Please carefully review the policies and procedures listed below.

1. Submit an official copy of your high school transcript verifying graduation or GED to the College Admissions or  Records and Registration Department.

2. The Department does not offer proficiency exams for any technical course.

3.Take the CSCC Compass placement test for reading, math and writing skills.  The following is required:

If developmental courses in English composition and/or reading/and/or math are recommended, the following requirements must be met before you can begin technical courses in the MH/AS/DD Program.

  • Placement out of DEV 031 : Pre Algebra with a “D” or higher
  • Placement out of DEV 044: Critical Reading and Thinking with a grade of “C” or higher.
  • Placement out of ENGL 100: Language Development with a “C” or higher.

4.Meet with a Health and Human Services Division academic advisor Aquinas Hall to establish the first quarter schedule. Receive notification of Program Information session and plan to attend while enrolled in the first quarter of MHAD introductory courses.

5. If you placed in ENGL 101: Beginning Composition, the following requirements must be completed with a “C” or higher before you can be accepted into the program.

  • ENGL 101: Beginning Composition
  • PSY 100: Introduction to Psychology (as a 5 hour course)
  • MHAD 111: Introduction to Mental Health
  • MHAD 112: Introduction to Developmental Disabilities
  • MHAD 114: Introduction to Addiction Studies
  • MHAD 115: Introduction to Counseling
  • MHAD 117: Introduction to Documentation Skills

The courses in Section 4 may be taken concurrently and in any order or combination. 

NOTE:  All must be completed before you can be offered formal admission in the program.

6. Attend and participate in a mandatory group admission interview.  The interview will be scheduled during the seventh or eighth week of the quarter you are completing the seven required courses listed above.
