Health IT Scholarship

Looking for a solid job in a growing field? Students in the Short Term Certificate Program in Health Information Technology (HIT) may qualify for a full scholarship funded by federal stimulus dollars.

The program is designed to train more than 10,000 Health IT workers at community colleges over the next few years.  Those trained in this program will help fill the expected shortage of Health IT workers that are needed to support the national program to install, implement and support electronic medical record systems (EMR) in medical settings across the country.  This program takes six months or less, and can be completed online. Columbus State is the only college in Columbus, Ohio offering this program. It's one of only four colleges in Ohio and 17 colleges in the Midwest that is teaching this program.

  3. Implementation support specialist
  4. Implementation manager

  6. View all roles

This training program is delivered fully online at the student’s own pace so that the training can be completed within six months or less.  The certificate includes 16 college credit hours in eight courses taken during two consecutive quarters.  Students may start the program at the beginning of any quarter.

Scholarship recipients must be those who will be seeking new employment in Health IT or will have their current job role expanded in Health IT due to this training.  The training is available to all others at Columbus State Community College’s tuition rates.

Admissions Requirements

To be eligible for these short term programs, you will need to have experience in either an IT (information technology) or IS (information system) role in a business or health care environment; or have experience working in healthcare as a clinical practitioner/healthcare worker, medical records, Health Information Management, medical billing or hospital business office.  Each applicant’s education, work experience, certifications and life situation will be reviewed prior to admissions to ensure that the student can complete the training within a six month period.  The admissions criteria varies based upon the workforce role in which the applicant is seeking training.
