Current Position
Lori McKenzie is the Assistant Director of Human Capacity Development, a position
she has held since 2007. She is responsible for leading the HCD staff in coordinating,
facilitating, training and developing programs to meet the needs of the college.
Professional Experience
Lori brings over 20 years of experience in both private and non-profit organizations.
She has served in leadership positions in business, social services, consulting and
higher education. Her experience includes organizational development, talent management,
workforce planning, career development, coaching, process improvement and program
development.

Current Position
Barbara Allen serves as Program Coordinator for Staff Orientation, Colleague, and
Safety Training, a position she has held since April 2011. Barbara is responsible
for New Hire Orientation, Colleague Quality Assurance and Safety training as well
as professional development initiatives campus-wide.
Professional Experience
Barbara has worked in higher education for 16 years in such diverse areas as admissions,
advising, alumni affairs, development, enrollment services, and strategic enrollment
management. With Columbus State, she coordinated the Welcome Team for 10 years and
served as a mentor to Student Ambassadors. In addition, Barbara has taught public
speaking as an adjunct and serves as co-advisor for The National Society for Leadership
and Success. She performs with Columbus Unscripted as a member of See You Thursday
as well as with the all-female troupe, The Dixie Cups Improv ,where is she is a co-founding
member.

Pursuing a Ph.D at The Ohio State University in Educational Policy and Leadership
focusing on student leadership programs at the community college.

Rich James
Program Coordinator for Faculty Development

Current Position
Rich James has been Program Coordinator for Faculty Development since 2009. He coordinates
faculty orientations, professional development modules through the adjunct engagement
initiative, and other activities and resources for faculty.
Professional Experience
Rich spent 7 years at the College as an instructional designer and multimedia developer
where he supported hundreds of courses, and many college programs, with video, graphic
and web design. His work earned him several awards including a University System of
Ohio’s Faculty Innovator Award with retired biology professor Martha Sucheston. He
previously worked as an Emmy winning producer, director and editor in public television.His
professional interests are in educational psychology, instructional design, workplace
learning and informal learning mediated by electronic social networks.

Mary Francis McLaughlin is the Program Coordinator for Performance Management, a position
which she has held since 2007. She is responsible for coordinating the PERFORMs initiative
and provides performance consulting, coaching, training and development for staff
and administrators.
Professional Experience
Mary Francis has worked in supervisory and upper level management positions in education,
non-profits, business and governmental organizations developing, presenting, and managing programs to improve individual and organizational
performance. She has also taught as an adjunct at Carnegie Mellon University and
WVU.

Susan Thompson serves as the Office Associate for Human Capacity Development, a position
she has held since 2008. She is responsible for scheduling rooms and catering, preparing
class materials, compiling evaluations, and processing tuition reimbursement and fee
waiver requests.
Professional Experience
Prior to joining Columbus State, she worked for the State of Ohio for 31 years in
a number of agencies including the Auditor of State, Ohio House of Representatives,
Office of Collective Bargaining, Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental
Disabilities, and Department of Mental Health.
