Health & Safety Training

New Hire Orientation

In compliance with the Public Employee Risk Reduction Act (Ohio Department of Commerce) and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Columbus State provides the required training to all new employees during New Hire Orientation. Information includes an overview of CSCC Public Safety department, building egress, hazard communications, fire extinguisher basics, and college emergency alert system.

Safety Week – June 11 – 15, 2012

In compliance with the Public Employee Risk Reduction Act (Ohio Department of Commerce) and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Columbus State provides the required training necessary for specific positions during Safety Week.  Training provides the essential general safety guidelines, regulations, practices and principles to promote a safe work environment.

Sessions are offered on: Bloodborne Pathogens, Personal Protective Equipment, Fire Extinguisher, Hazard Communications, Emergency Preparedness, Confined Space Entry and Lockout/Tagout.

Hearing Conservation Program

CSCC employees working in positions exposed to high noise levels will participate in the Hearing Conservation Program to monitor effects of exposure. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and training will be provided to the employee at no cost. All applicable employees will have a baseline audiometric test within 1 month of employment start date and annually after baseline is established. Tests will be provided at no cost to the employee and conducted during Safety Week.    

Adult CPR & AED

Save a life. Learn Adult CPR and be ready to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies. Also, learn how to operate the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). Upcoming 2012 training dates are:

CPR Recertification for Healthcare Providers

This course is based on the guidelines and standards set forth by the American Heart Association (AHA) in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (HCP). Course covers Adult and Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillation (AED), use of a Bag Valve Mask (BVM), and care to relieve a foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO) for the professional audience. Guidelines 2010 for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care are presented and practiced by the student. This course fulfills the required CPR certification for healthcare providers.

On-line Web-Based Training

In addition to classroom courses, Columbus State offers supplemental, on-line web-based Clarity health & safety training courses to help employees focus on pro-active practices and awareness to keep the college community safe. Topics include but are not limited to: electrical safety, diversity, customer service, back safety, walking & working surfaces, hearing protection, office safety, and office ergonomics.
